On Sunday the 16th of November, 8 of our Beaver section took on Mullaghmore in the Burren as part of their hillwalking adventure skills. This was our final session of our hillwalking programme which has earned them their hillwalking 1 badge.
As always we started our session with our Beaver promise and headed off on the 7.5km blue route which took us up to the top of Mullaghmore and descended down the north side and circled back to the edge of Lough Gealan. We were met with fantastic views throughout the whole hike and it really showed us how amazing the landscape in the Burren really is.
The trail was tricky in places with slippery rocks, uneven terrain and even some climbing up some sheer walls of rock. It was no match for our Beavers who took it all in their stride and the proud look on their faces when we reached the stone cairn at the top reminded us leaders why we joined scouts. Such an achievement at a young age.
As we got to our meeting point some parents were arriving and got to watch us do our promise and got to watch some of their children presented with their first ever badge in scouting.
It was a fantastic day and a huge accomplishment for everyone involved. A big thanks to all the children, parents and leaders for making the day happen. βοΈ
